AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball will celebrate its 50th Anniversary by unveiling its 50th anniversary team on Saturday, Nov. 2, when the Hilltoppers host Lubbock Christian at 1:00 p.m. for Homecoming week.
St. Edward's volleyball started competing at the intercollegiate level in 1974 under the leadership of head coach Diane Daniels.
The Hilltoppers won their first conference championship in 1985 as a member of the Big State Conference in the NAIA. Volleyball won three regular-season titles in the Heart of Texas Conference, seven as an NCAA Division II Heartland Conference member, and three Heartland Conference Tournament Championships.
Volleyball has qualified for nine National Championship Tournaments, including five in the NAIA and four appearances in the NCAA.
St. Edward's has inducted ten volleyball members into its Athletics Hall of Fame, including Heather Arnold-Stoner, Suzy Bayer, Julie Burleson-Grant, Leticia Campos, Julie Chauvin, Julieanne De Ybarrando-Loth, Erika Figueiredo-Rodriguez, Ginny Green-Koch, Kathryn Hopkins, and Melanie Hudkins. Volleyball has 16 All-American selections.
Seven head coaches have led the Hilltoppers. Recently retired Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Debbie Taylor is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 327-169 career record, including 73-42 in conference play from 1990-2001. Taylor and Daniels are both two-time NAIA District Coach of the Year recipients, and Taylor was the Heartland Coach of the Year in her final season. Head coach Jared Te'o currently leads St. Edward's.
