EDMOND, Okla. – St. Edward's women's soccer scored two second-half goals and limited Oklahoma Christian to six shots to earn a fourth-consecutive shutout victory.
Neither team mustered a shot through the first 24 minutes, though the Eagles did have a trio of corner kicks and another opportunity, which was negated by an offsides penalty.
TRISTYN CABELLO and
ANNIE ROCHA finally recorded back-to-back shots at the end of the 24th minute, but they got blocked and missed wide left.
The Hilltoppers started to control possession over the final 15 minutes of the half. Rocha missed a pair of shots high,
ALYSSA GARCIA had a shot blocked, and
KATIE FITZPATRICK and
CARINA WUST got shots on goal in the 38th and 40th minutes, stopped by Oklahoma Christian goalie Breanna Wooten.
Kyla Lovelace generated Oklahoma Christian's first shot in the 36th minute, saved by
DARIA SCHLUMBOHM. Hadley Horn missed wide left in the 42nd minute to leave the game scoreless at the break.
RAINEY SIMMONS opened the second half with a stopped shot on goal, and the Hilltoppers followed with three more shots that missed the mark until
TRISTYN CABELLO finally broke through with a penalty kick.
ABIGAIL HALL's perfectly weighted pass from near midfield into the box for
ALYSSA GARCIA drew the foul when Wooten had to sprint out of the net to try and disrupt the play but tackled Garcia to earn the penalty. Cabello went right and scored the game-winner in the 60th minute.
Oklahoma Christian rallied and put a shot off the woodwork, then one on goal, stopped by Schlumbohm.
The Eagles earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 79th minute, but after Garcia and Rocha teamed up to dispossess Oklahoma Christian of the ball, a frustrated Eagles player picked up a yellow card dragging a Hilltopper to the ground.
MARIE HANNEDOUCHE triggered the ensuing free kick from near midfield into the box, forcing Wooten to leap to deflect the ball.
ELENA RAMOS BANET made the head's up play, sprinting into the shot to add an insurance goal in the 81st minute.
St. Edward's improves to 6-6-2 with a 4-4-1 conference record. The Hilltoppers will host Dallas Baptist on Tuesday for its Tiny Toppers Halloween Bash.
