AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball dropped three hard-fought sets to the No. 14-ranked Angelo State Rambelles, finishing on near equal footing in kills and hitting percentage but falling behind on the margins in a 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 loss.
MIA CLAY led St. Edward's with 10 Kills, and
KELLI FORDING had a team-high 10.5 points, combining nine kills and three block assists in the loss.
Clay hit a perfect 6-for-6 in the first set, and
CORA YOUNG added three kills on six attacks, but Angelo State hit .400 as a team to take the opening set. Madi Parrish received most of the sets for Angelo State, hitting 3-for-10, but the rest of her team was hyper-efficient. Evelyn Torres hit 6-for-8 with an error, Demi Carter 3-for-5, and Sydney Thornton had three kills on three attacks.
In the second set, which had nine ties and seven lead changes, neither team consistently punctured the other's defense. However, St. Edward's committed three service errors for the set, ending it with back-to-back attack errors to fall behind 2-0.
ADDY BADLEY sparked St. Edward's with four kills on eight attacks in the third set, and Young had three kills on six attacks, but the Hilltoppers committed four more service errors in a 25-21 loss.
Torres led Angelo State with 13 kills on a .229 clip. The Rambelles hit .193 to St. Edward's .171. Both teams finished with 17 kills.
St. Edward's drops to 9-13, and Angelo State improves to 20-2. The Hilltoppers will host Lubbock Christian tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. and unveil its 50th Anniversary Team.
