J.P. Scores Career-High in Win Over Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – J.P. scored a career-high 24 points and dished out six assists, and St. Edward's women's basketball carried a dominant third quarter into an 83-78 victory over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles.

Both teams played to an 18-18 standstill in the first quarter, as St. Edward's two starting first-years, J.P. and BAILEY FEATHERSTONE, alternated buckets to combine for 16 points. J.P. hit 3-for-5 from the field and hit all four free-throw attempts.

The Hilltoppers opened the second quarter on a tear, reeling off a 14-2 run between ISABEL LANGENBERG, LAUREN CATHERMAN, and Featherstone. Catherman and Langenberg each hit a 3-pointer during the five-minute stretch, and Featherstone hit a pair of pull-up jumpers.

Oklahoma Christian returned from a timeout with a 15-0 run, holding St. Edward's to 0-for-7 shooting with a balanced attack led by Brooklin Bain's four points over that stretch for the 35-32 lead at the break.

J.P. and Featherstone led St. Edward's with 10 each at the half, and Catherman and Langenberg scored five each. Bain recorded 10 points and nine rebounds.

St. Edward's opened the second half on a 7-0 run sparked by a Catherman steal for a layup, then a turnaround jumper to retake the lead. The Hilltoppers dug in defensively, got a combined nine points off the bench from Langenberg and ABBEY MORTON, and J.P. dropped another 10-point quarter, hitting 4-for-6 from the field to outscore Oklahoma Christian 26-10 in the quarter and take a 58-45 lead into the fourth.

Bain and Asiyha Smith led Oklahoma Christian on several mini-runs throughout the fourth quarter, combining to score 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Still, the Hilltoppers found an answer for every Oklahoma Christian push.

AINSLEY THUNELL came up big with seven points, hitting all three shots from the field, and Featherstone, J.P., and Langenberg kept Oklahoma Christian at bay with a combined 14-for-16 performance from the free-throw line to seal the victory.

J.P. finished 7-for-14 from the field and 9-for-9 from the free-throw line with five rebounds. Featherstone added 17 points and eight rebounds, and Langenberg scored 15 off the bench. Bain led Oklahoma Christian with 23 points and 16 rebounds.

St. Edward's improves to 8-16 with a 5-13 conference record. The Hilltoppers will return home to host Lubbock Christian on Thursday and West Texas A&M on Saturday.
