Men's Basketball Goes Cold in Second Half In Loss To No. 4 DBU

DALLAS – In a tale of two halves, St. Edward's men's basketball faded down the stretch in a 69-59 loss to the No. 4-ranked Dallas Baptist University Patriots.

The St. Edward's offense fired on all cylinders in the first half, assisting on 13 of its 15 made field goals while shooting 51.7 percent from the field. BENNETT MOHN, whose scoring reliance on off-ball movement and outside shooting can serve as a barometer for the Hilltopper offense, scored 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting in the first half.

Mohn scored on a layup on a feed from JAYDEN JOHNSTON off an offensive rebound, a 3-pointer in transition on a feed from BLAKE NIELSEN, and another 3-pointer on an assist from GAVINO RAMOS. He also hit a pair of free throws.

Nielsen and Ramos combined for 15 points and six assists on 5-for-9 shooting, and Johnston added six points and four assists in the half. Cameron Kahn kept Dallas Baptist afloat with 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and two free throws. Ta'Jay Dunlap added eight to keep DBU within six at 41-35 at the break.

Dallas Baptist's defense upped its defensive intensity to limit St. Edward's to 4-for-27 shooting after the break, holding the Hilltoppers to more turnovers (five) than assists (three) in the second half.

Khan kept his scoring up with 11 points after the break to finish with a game-high 23 points on 7-for-11 shooting and eight rebounds. Deng Dut added eight points. The Hilltoppers were outscored 22-6 in the paint and 12-1 on second-chance points.

Mohn and Nielsen led St. Edward's with 12 points each, and Ramos added 11. The Hilltoppers drop to 16-8 with a 9-6 conference record. St. Edward's will remain on the road to play UT Tyler on Saturday.
