SAINT LEO, Fla. – St. Edward's volleyball won its second consecutive three-set sweep, defeating UVA Wise behind double-digit kills from
MIA CLAY and
KAT NEILLE and a solid all-around performance from
JORDAN CHAPMAN.
Clay dominated the first set, putting down six kills on eight attacks with only two errors to lead the Hilltoppers to a 25-18 opening win. Chapman set the table with eight assists and led the team with five digs.
The second set was highly contested, with 18 ties and 10 lead changes. St. Edward's pulled away with clutch play from Neille, who posted back-to-back kills to end the set 26-24. Neille and Clay recorded six kills each in the set, with Clay also contributing two block assists and eight digs.
ALTHEA MORRIS orchestrated the bulk of the attack in the set with nine assists.
Morris and Chapman set a balanced attack in the third set, combining for 11 assists with four different hitters recording at least three kills, including a perfect 4-for-4 from
CARRINGTON JAIMES, who ended the set with an ace to clinch the match with a 25-18 win.
Clay had 15 kills on a .257 hitting percentage and nine digs. It's the third consecutive match with double-digit kills for the first-year outside hitter. Neille had 11 kills. Morris led the team with 19 assists, and Chapman helped keep UVA Wise off-balance with 16 assists, three kills on four attacks from the setter position, an ace and led the team with 13 digs.
St. Edward's setters did an excellent job mixing in their middles, finding
CORA YOUNG for five kills on nine attacks and Jaimes for six kills on nine. The Hilltoppers recorded eight aces, including two each from
JAZZY WILLIAMS,
LANDRY BAUGHMAN, and Jaimes.
The Hilltoppers improved to 5-2 and close their weekend later today with a 2:30 p.m. match against Saint Michael's.
