GUNNISON, Colo. – ANNIE ROCHA continues to add to her early-season highlight reel. The first-year forward followed her spectacular equalizer against Concordia-St. Paul with another golazo to put the finishing touches on a 2-0 win over Western Colorado.
St. Edward's poured on the pressure in the first half, with Rocha generating three shots in the first 10 minutes, having one blocked, one saved, and one wide left. She remained active throughout the first half, resulting in a breakthrough goal 26 minutes in.
Rocha had an attempt blocked near the edge of the box.
KATIE FITZPATRICK settled the deflection on a spin move and immediately put the ball through two defenders for Rocha, who rocketed the ball off the keeper.
TRISTYN CABELLO got the rebound and put it into the back of the net.
With 29 minutes remaining in the second half, Rocha received a perfectly weighted ball on a long pass down the sideline, decelerated to allow the sprinting defender to overrun the ball, then launched a beautiful shot past the keeper for the 2-0 lead.
Rocha ended the game with nine shots, including three on goal. The Hilltoppers had an 18-14 advantage in shots taken.
DARIA SCHLUMBOHM stopped all five Western Colorado shots on goal for the shutout. Women's soccer improved to 1-1-1 and will return home to play Regis on Thursday.
