SAN ANTONIO – KELLI FORDING and
MIA CLAY proved to be a devastating one-two punch against the Cameron Aggies, opening the Lone Star Conference Preview with a 3-1 win.
Fording and Clay combined for 37 kills on better than .300 hitting, with
ALTHEA MORRIS setting the table at 49 assists to lead St. Edward's. Morris also led a precise, efficient Hilltopper serve with three of St. Edward's 10 aces to reach that team total for the third time this season.

CORA YOUNG set the tone, opening the match with back-to-back kills and teamed with
KAT NEILLE for a block. The Hilltoppers quickly opened a 13-4 lead in the first set and never looked back. Clay buried the Aggies with eight kills on 10 attacks with just one error, Young and Neille combined on two blocks, and the Hilltoppers hit .387 as a team for the 25-16 win.
The second set was far more competitive. Both teams exchanged nine ties and six lead changes as both hit under .200. Fording carried the Hilltoppers with seven kills on 17 attacks in the set, and Clay added four more on .300 hitting for the 25-21 win.
Kayla Eggiman led Cameron to its most efficient set and lone win in the third, putting down seven kills on 14 attacks and no errors. She also recorded three of the Aggies' five aces in the set, defeating St. Edward's 25-22.
St. Edward's squashed any momentum quickly in the fourth and final set, jumping out to a 16-6 lead with Fording and Clay doing much of the heavy lifting. The duo combined for nine kills on .375 and .417 hitting to clinch the match with a 25-12 lead.
Fording hit a career-high 19 kills on a .312 hitting percentage with two aces and a block assists. Clay was just as dominant, posting 18 kills on a .343 clip with one ace. Morris recorded a career-high 49 assists,
GISELLE OJEDA had a career-high 21 digs with 18 receptions, and Young had five block assists.
St. Edward's improves to 7-2 and will play in San Antonio again tomorrow against the 7-1 Oklahoma Christian Eagles at 3:00 p.m.
