SAN ANTONIO – St. Edward's volleyball's five-game winning streak ended on the final day of the LSC Preview with a three-set loss to St. Mary's, falling 25-22, 25-17, 25-20.
MIA CLAY continues to shine early in her collegiate career, leading St. Edward's with 14 kills on a blistering .478 hitting percentage. The first set was highly contested, with the game tied at 22 down the stretch, but Virthe had a crucial kill, and Landri Withers and Olivia Rubio blocked
KAT NEILLE to take the set.
Both teams limited their attack errors in the second set, but St. Mary's had 17 kills to St. Edward's 13, led by Dallasstar Johnson and Virthe with five kills each. Clay and Fording did a lot of the heavy lifting for St. Edward's, combining for nine kills on 14 attempts. Clay hit a perfect 5-for-5.
Virthe and Brianna Morris-Worth clinched the third set for St. Mary's by combining for 13 kills on 16 attacks, hitting .857 and .778, respectively.
