Annie Rocha's Late Equalizer Delivers a Draw For Women's Soccer

AUSTIN, Texas – ANNIE ROCHA delivered a spectacular equalizer in the 74th minute to give St. Edward's women's soccer a 1-1 draw with the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears at Lewis-Chen Family Field.

St. Edward's put heavy pressure on Concordia-St. Paul, for the first 10 minutes. ALYSSA GARCIA put a shot on goal at the 5:43 mark, and a minute later, TRISTYN CABELLO missed another wide left. The Hilltoppers stayed in their attacking third, generating three corner kicks over the next minute and 30 seconds. MCKENNA KEELEY tested Golden Bear keeper Kayla Matuzak again nearly nine minutes in but was unsuccessful.

The Golden Bears struck in the 15th minute off their first corner kick when Sophia Haase delivered the ball in stride to Sydney Manthana near the front post for the lead.

St. Edward's put four shots on goal in the first half and six overall but were left scoreless heading into the break.

Rocha got a quick look at a shot out of a ball delivered from a free kick nearly five minutes into the second half but couldn't get enough on it from the crowd. After the Golden Bears picked up a pair of yellow cards, MARIE HANNEDOUCHE found Rocha in the middle of the field, but the shot rolled wide right.

The third time was a charm for Rocha in the 74th minute on a throw-in near the Hilltopper bench. Rocha received the pass near the sideline, made a quick turn, and launched an ambitious shot from a distance, rocketing it into the far back top corner of the net to tie the game.

Concordia-St. Answered with three shot attempts over the final ten minutes, but DARIA SCHLUMBOHM stopped one, and the other two sailed high.

St. Edward's leaves the week with a 0-1-1 record. The Hilltoppers will travel next weekend to play Western Colorado on Sunday.
