J.P. and Langenberg Hit Clutch Shots, Women's Basketball Defeats Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – J.P. and ISABEL LANGENBERG took turns hitting big shots in the fourth quarter to deliver the knockout blows against Cameron, defeating the Aggies 83-76 to wrap up a successful two-game road trip.

St. Edward's star point guard got back on track offensively, scoring 21 points on 9-for-18 shooting with four assists. J.P. scored seven in the fourth quarter, answering every Cameron run, replacing the pick axe in the Aggie logo with multiple daggers.

The Hilltoppers opened an early double-digit lead with a 12-0 run midway through the first quarter, capped off by a 3-pointer and layup from KIANA BENNETT. BAILEY FEATHERSTONE continued her aggressive play, sparking St. Edward's off the bench again with nine first-quarter points on 4-for-6 shooting. She helped extend the advantage by as much as 12 before settling in with a 30-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.

First-year backup point guard RILEY MOORE built off her solid second-half performance against Oklahoma Christian to be a steadying presence in the second quarter, getting to the free-throw line repeatedly for seven points with no turnovers.

The play of St. Edward's second unit this week could be a revelation, carrying a heavy workload in the second quarter with 16 points, keeping Cameron at bay despite the Aggies' four 3-pointers to lead 47-42 at the break.

Featherstone added another four points to lead the Hilltoppers with 13 at the half, and JASMYN JACKSON contributed five points and three rebounds. Kloe Heidebrecht and Shamica Smith kept Cameron afloat, combining for 20 points on 11 shots.

Bennett opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers, and J.P. caught fire, crashing the glass for a layup, hitting a few pull-up jumpers and two free throws to score 10 points in the quarter with four rebounds to push the lead to 65-54 heading into the fourth.

Shamica Smith carried Cameron back into the game in the fourth quarter, going to work inside for 11 points on three made field goals inside and five made free throws. The Aggies cut the deficit to three with seven minutes remaining, but J.P. found Langenberg inside.

Smith answered with back-to-back fastbreak layups to cut the Hilltopper lead to one, and Langenberg made another clutch play, crashing the glass for an offensive rebound and putback.

J.P. and Langenberg answered Smith's scores, combining for 13 in the fourth. Within a few minutes, J.P. drove for a layup, pulled up for a deep two-pointer off the bounce, and hit one final dagger with a 3-pointer with 49 seconds remaining to go back up seven. Moore and Bennett sealed the game at the free-throw line.

Bennett and Featherstone each recorded 15 points and six rebounds. Moore was steady with 11 points, three assists, and two steals. Jackson had another solid outing with nine points and six rebounds, helping the Hilltoppers to a 35-22 advantage in bench scoring.
