NORMAN, Okla. – St. Edward's women's track and field sprinters opened 2025 on a high note, advancing several sprinters past the preliminaries of Oklahoma University's Owen Hewitt Invitational.
JASMINE COOKE set the tone in the 60-meter open preliminaries, qualifying with a time of 8.12 to place 16th, then clocking an 8.14 to finish 11th in the finals. First-year
KARLY WEYAND edged out junior
HAILEY RODRIGUEZ in the 60-meter prelims, placing 23rd with a tie of 8.20 to Rodriguez's 8.37 in 36th.
YAMILA CARTWRIGHT also competed with a time of 8.46 to place 42nd.
St. Edward's placed to freshman women in the top five of the 60-meter hurdles open finals. Myosia Virgin led St. Edward's with a time of 9.64, placing third. Mary-Kate Havens followed in fifth with a time of 9.92. Both athletes improved on their preliminary times.
AUDREY WISTAIN competed in the 60-meter Invite hurdles preliminaries and placed 14th with a time of 9.60.
Rodriguez paced seven Hilltoppers in the 200 meters open, finishing 13th at 27.29. Cooke gave the Hilltoppers another top 20 finished in 18th at 27.45, followed by Cartwright in 26th at 27.70. Havens (31st, 27.91), Wistain (34th, 28.03), Virgin (54th, 29.17), and
TORI PONCE (63rd, 29.75) also competed.
St. Edward's Quartet of Cartwright, Cooke, Rodriguez, and Weyand placed eighth in the 4x400 relay, scoring a 4:10.95.
St. Edward's will travel to Houston next week to participate in the FasTrack Athletix Indoor College Challenge on Jan. 25, hosted by the University of Houston.
