Women's Basketball Goes Cold in Fourth Quarter Against Angelo State

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball led Angelo State for over half the game but went cold in the fourth quarter of an 80-72 loss to the Rambelles.

RAMSEY ROBLEDO led St. Edward's with 17 points, and the Hilltoppers' second unit outscored Angelo State 26-10 in bench points. However, the Rambelle two-big lineup of Madeline Stephens and Keniah Williams combined for 50 points, and Angelo State outscored St. Edward's 46-20 in the paint.

Angelo State established the 6-foot-4 Williams inside early, going inside for seven first-quarter points on 3-for-5 shooting. St. Edward's countered with a more balanced approach orchestrated by J.P.

St. Edward's point guard recorded six assists in the first quarter, finding MIKAH CHAPMAN for a pair of short baseline jumpers, then a hit-ahead pass to ISABEL LANGENBERG on the break. She also found BAILEY FEATHERSTONE for a turnaround jumper from the elbow, JASMYN JACKSON for a free-throw jumper from a baseline inbounds pass, and Langenberg for another short jumper for an 18-17 deficit at the end of the first.

Angelo State and St. Edward's picked up the pace in the second quarter, exchanging baskets at breakneck speed. Madi Lumsden broke free for a pair of 3-pointers and was fouled on another 3-point attempt, scoring nine points in the quarter. Stephens provided a formidable counterweight inside, slashing from the elbows for three layups and a free throw.

J.P. went from playmaker to scorer, weaving through the defense and getting to the free-throw line, scoring six points in the quarter with two more assists.

Featherstone anchored the second unit with six points in the quarter, operating as the focal point with J.P. on the bench. Featherstone worked expertly from both elbows, combining strength, balance, footwork, and a quick first step for 10 first-half points on 4-for-5 shooting. St. Edward's bench outscored Angelo State's 18-5 to lead the Hilltoppers to a 43-41 break at the half.

St. Edward's continued to light up the scoreboard early in the third quarter. KIANA BENNETT got loose for a pair of 3-pointers, surpassing 1,000 career points, and Robledo added another 3-pointer to open up a 12-point lead with 5:20 remaining in the third.

Stephens settled Angelo State over the final six minutes of the third quarter, scoring 12 points on 3-for-5 shooting and making all six free-throw attempts.

St. Edward's struggled from the field down the stretch, shooting 1-for-7 from beyond the 3-point line, while Angelo State found a steady diet of big-to-big high-low passes and pick-and-rolls for 16 points in the paint, outscoring the Hilltoppers 24-11 in the fourth.

Stephens led all scorers with 29 points and seven rebounds. Williams added 21 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. J.P. finished with 10 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Featherstone scored 10, Langenberg added seven, and Jackson scored eight.
