AUSTIN, Texas – After an evenly matched first half, St. Edward's women's soccer surrendered two goals within a 10-minute span in a 2-1 loss to UT Dallas on Wednesday night at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
Both teams exchanged quality opportunities in the first half, with
ANDREA SANTANA creating havoc down the right side. The junior midfielder accounted for two of the Hilltoppers' six first-half shots, including the team's lone attempt on goal before halftime.
St. Edward's moved the ball well but was undone by heavy touches and missed connections in the final third, leaving the score level at the break.
The Comets (9–2–1, 6–2–0 LSC) broke through in the 58th minute when Chelsea Vilca pounced on a loose ball in the box for her seventh goal of the season. Kira Schkade doubled the lead 11 minutes later, driving a shot past goalkeeper
DARIA SCHLUMBOHM for her first of the year.
The Hilltoppers (4–7–2, 3–4–2) continued to press, and
ISABELLA RUIZ pulled one back in the 90th minute, finishing a corner from Santana for her first goal of the season.
Texas–Dallas held a narrow 15–12 edge in shots. Schlumbohm finished with six saves to keep St. Edward's within reach, while McKenzie Hunninghake made three stops for the Comets.
St. Edward's returns to action Saturday, traveling to Laredo to face Texas A&M International in Lone Star Conference play.
