WICHITA FALLS, Texas – St. Edward's women's soccer showed grit and composure in a 2–1 loss to Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon at Stang Park.
The Hilltoppers struck first in the 22nd minute when
MARIE HANNEDOUCHE capitalized on a perfectly executed short-corner routine. A quick pass from
RAINEY SIMMONS to
LANE ROGERS set up Hannedouche, who buried a clean finish into the top of the net to give St. Eds the early advantage.
Despite constant second-half pressure, St. Edward's held firm defensively, led by goalkeeper
DARIA SCHLUMBOHM, who tallied three key saves. The Hilltoppers continued to create chances on the counter, even after a physical contest that saw multiple cards and momentum swings.
Midwestern State netted the equalizer shortly after halftime and added a late header off a set piece to edge ahead, but the Hilltoppers never backed down—showing poise and organization until the final whistle.
With the result, St. Edward's moves to 2–6–2 (1–3–2 LSC) but demonstrated growth and energy heading into the second half of conference play.
