Hettrick Strikes Out 11 in Complete-Game Victory

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's starter GEORGE HETTRICK went all seven innings, and the Hilltopper offense plated five runs in the sixth inning to open its doubleheader against Cameron with a 9-2 victory.

The Hilltoppers put two runs on in the first with back-to-back, two-out hits from CONNOR COX and CARLO FIGUEROA. Cox ripped a two-strike single up the middle, then Figuroa blasted a two-run, opposite-field home run into the right-field netting.

Hettrick surrendered a leadoff walk in the first inning, then retired the next 10 hitters in order, including five strikeouts through the first three innings. The streak ended when Hettrick surrendered a one-out walk in the fourth, then a two-out single to right field to set up Zane Roos's two-RBI triple for the 2-0 lead.

TREVOR SEBEK got the Hilltopper offense on track with a leadoff standup triple, pulling the ball to the furthest corner of right field. Cameron's starting pitcher, Victor Munoz, hit TRAVIS CHESTNUT, and Cox drove both runners in with a two-RBI to left-center.

After Figuroa grounded out, Cameron turned to Josh Martinez out of the bullpen. Martinez plunked Barrera, then advanced him to second on a wild pitch. DYLAN TATE capitalized with a two-RBI single up the middle. NICHOLAS ANDERSON and DYLAN TATE added two more runs with an RBI double and RBI single to left field for the 8-2 lead.

Chestnut showcased his speed in the sixth with a leadoff single through the left side, then stole second, third, and home for good measure, scoring by perfectly timing the catcher's throw back to the mound on the steal.

Hettrick returned to the mound and retired the side in order, earning his first win. Hettrick surrendered two runs on two hits with two walks, striking out 11.

St. Edward's hit a combined 5-for-7 out of its two and three spots. Chestnut hit 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Cox went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Anderson also had two hits. The Hilltoppers improved to 7-3 with the win.
