ALPINE, Texas – St. Edward's softball split its doubleheader against Sul Ross State, bouncing back from a Game 1 loss with a vengeance, recording three home runs and the program's most runs since 2022.
Game 1: Sul Ross State 2, St. Edward's 1
St. Edward's left eight runners stranded and surrendered a two-run home run in the fifth inning to drop the first game 2-1 to Sul Ross State.
SLOANE HILL put St. Edward's on the scoreboard in the first inning with an RBI single through the left side, scoring
SOFIA APONTE, who reached on an infield single.
LAUREN HOYT followed with a single to load the bases with two outs, but
AUDRI CASTILLO flied out to right field, ending the inning with a 1-0 lead.
Clemente drew a one-out walk in the fifth and Hernandez followed with a two-run blast down the left-field line for the 2-1 lead.
ARIANNA VIDALES laid down a leadoff bunt for a single in the seventh, stole second, and advanced to third on a fly out to right field, but was left stranded on a groundout to end the game.
Hoyt and Vidales each hit 2-for-2. Dillong, Aponte,
ELLA HUTZLER, and Hill each had a hit. Both pitchers threw complete games. Chambers picked up the win, surrendering one run and eight hits with no walks.
HALEY CARMONA walked five and surrendered five hits with two runs allowed, striking out two.
Game 2: St. Edward's 18, Sul Ross State 1
ALYSSA BURDGE hit a perfect 4-for-4 in the second game, including two home runs, a triple, five RBI, and three runs scored to lead St. Edward's to an 18-1 win.

MEGAN MORRIS,
SLOANE HILL, and Burdge each singled in the first inning, getting RBI from Morris and Hill for the 2-0 lead.
St. Edward's loaded the bases to start the second.
LAUREN HOYT walked, and Vidales and Dillon bunted for back-to-back singles, setting up Aponte's two-RBI single on the left side. Morris followed with an RBI single, Hutzler hit a sac fly to score Aponte, Hill drove in Morris on a groundout, and Burdge hit a solo blast to go up 8-0.
Sul Ross State scored on an error in the third, but the Hilltoppers responded with five runs on five hits in the top of the fourth, punctuated by a three-run home run from Burdge to go up 13-1.
Hutzler hit a solo blast in the fifth, kicking off another five-run inning for St. Edward's, taking advantage of two errors and getting an RBI triple from Burdge for the 18-1 final score.
Dillon and Morris each had three hits. Dillon scored two runs with an RBI, and Morris drove in three RBI and scored thrice. Hutzler and Hill each hit 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Hutzler scored twice.
KYLEN PADGETT threw two shutout innings with a hit surrendered.
MADDIE AGUILAR pitched three innings, with one run being surrendered in the win.
St. Edward's improves to 11-9 with a 5-5 conference record with the wins. The Hilltoppers will remain on the road and play Texas Permian Basin on Sunday.
