AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball's offense went cold in the third quarter of a 65-54 loss to the No. 7-ranked UT-Tyler Patriots.
J.P. led the Hilltoppers with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists, but half of the Patriots' 24 made field goals were from beyond the 3-point line, where UT Tyler outscored St. Edward's 36-12.
St. Edward's fell into an early 9-2 hole with five points off turnovers.
RAMSEY ROBLEDO steadied the Hilltoppers with free throws and a 3-pointer, and
BAILEY FEATHERSTONE came off the bench to tie the game. Robledo and Featherstone combined for nine points in the quarter, but eight different Patriots scored no more than one field goal in a balanced attack to take a 19-16 lead in the first.
The Hilltoppers found a foothold in the game defensively, limiting UT Tyler to 3-for-9 shooting in the quarter and forcing 10 turnovers, including five steals. Featherstone continued to lead the charge with a pair of buckets, matching Robledo for a game-high eight points at the half to give St. Edward's a 31-28 lead. Polina Latysheva led UT Tyler with a pair of 3-pointers.
UT Tyler scored the first 10 points of the second half, getting alternating 3-pointers and layups from Latysheva and Ella Bradley. St. Edward's struggled to convert from the field while UT Tyler hit 4-for-8 from deep to go on a 20-7 run and take a 48-38 lead.
J.P. found her rhythm in the fourth quarter, scoring seven points on 3-for-4 shooting, and
JASMYN JACKSON added a pair of fastbreak buckets off feeds from Featherstone, but Bradley kept the Hilltoppers out of reach with six points.
Robledo, Featherstone, and Jacksons each scored eight points.
AINSLEY THUNELL scored seven points with six rebounds. Latysheva, Bradley, and Lovisa Hevinder all reached double figures, combining for 37 points.
St. Edward's drops to 10-15 with a 6-9 conference record after the loss. The Hilltoppers will host Cameron next Thursday.
