SAN MARCOS, Texas – St. Edward's women's track and field team set three new school records at the Charles Austin Classic hosted by Texas State University.
"It was a great weekend for the ladies," St. Edward's Head Track & Field Coach Steven Cary exclaims. "There were strong performances across the board, and I though everyone put their best foot forward."
Three Hilltoppers finished in the top 10 in the 100, led by
JASMINE COOKE's school record 12.52.
AUDREY WISTAIN and
KARLY WEYAND finished immediately after in eighth and ninth at 12.60. All three runners eclipsed the previous record of 12.67 set by Wistain in 2023. All three are top 20 times in the LSC.
HAILEY RODRIGUEZ broke her 200-meter school record of 26.08 set at last year's Charles Austin Classic with a new time of 25.70, placing eighth. Rodriguez edged out Cook, who was in ninth at 25.75.
YAMILA CARTWRIGHT followed in 10th at 25.78. Both times were new career bests.
A third school record fell in the 1500, where
MIA RIVERA clocked a 4:39.06 to finish fifth, besting
JULIANA MERLO's record of 4:40.59 set in 2023. She also placed second in the 5K at a personal-best 18:11.24. Rivera's 1500 time is the fastest in the LSC this early season, and her 5K is the fourth-best time.
"Each individual is starting to gain confidence in their training, translating to competition," Cary says. "They know they have more in the tank and expect more. It's awesome to see things starting to click in both practice and meets."
St. Edward's will return to San Marcos next weekend to compete in the Bobcat Invitational.
