AUSTIN, Texas—St. Edward's University is pleased to announce
Corey Miller as the Associate Head Coach of the Men's Soccer program. Miller, who has been on the St. Edward's coaching staff since 2017, continues to bring a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in collegiate soccer.
Miller joined the Hilltoppers in the spring of 2017, where he helped the team match their own Heartland Conference single-season wins record with 11, previously set in 2016. That season, the Hilltoppers earned a spot in their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament and finished with a 15-4-2 overall record. Miller played a key role in developing standout players, including Ty Mobley, who earned All-American honors, and Dylan Armstrong, who was named an All-America honorable mention by the D2CCA.
Following a successful 2017 season with Miller on staff, the Hilltoppers were tasked with replacing 12 seniors. In 2018, Miller and staff helped the Hilltoppers claim their third consecutive conference divisional title, propelling them to the conference tournament. Dylan Armstrong again led the Hilltoppers in all attacking categories, earning first-team all-conference, D2CCAA, and United Soccer Coaches All-Region awards. Emerging players Jeremy Bischoff and Cody Spitzer were both named to the All-Conference team, with Spitzer being named a COSIDA all-district player.
The Hilltoppers began to find their stride in 2019 as they embarked on a new challenge of entering the Lone Star Conference. With 21 returning players and the development of senior leadership, the Hilltoppers finished fourth in the LSC with key wins against two nationally-ranked opponents. The season fell short in the LSC Tournament semi-finals. With Miller on the sideline, the Hilltoppers placed five players on the all-conference team. Led by Parker Fyfe and Jeremy Bischoff, who were both named United Soccer Coaches all-region players. Fyfe also earned to the D2CCAA first-team honors.
"I am thrilled to announce Corey as my associate head coach," said
Brian Young, Head Coach of St. Edward's Men's Soccer. "Corey's commitment, dedication, and care for this program have been proven through his recruiting, development of players, and tireless effort on and off the field. He has been a key component in returning the program and finding success within the first two years."
Before his time at St. Edward's, Miller served as the head men's soccer coach at Concordia University in Austin from 2013 to 2016. There, he broke the program's all-time wins record (33) and led the Tornados to their first-ever winning season in 2015. Under Miller's leadership, Concordia qualified for the American Southwest Conference (ASC) Tournament for the first time in the program's history, finishing third in the conference standings. Miller's success at Concordia also included coaching 22 players to all-conference honors and placing multiple players in the NCAA Division III West Regional rankings.
"I'm beyond grateful to AD Dr. Jim Sarra and Head Coach Brian Young for this opportunity as Associate Head Coach. I am looking forward to seeing our program grow and once again make the Hilltop a destination for top college soccer players," said Miller. "We were seeing great development leading into 2020, and I am excited to see that process happen again with our current players."
Miller's coaching experience extends beyond St. Edward's and Concordia. He was an assistant coach at Hastings College (Neb.) for two years, where he helped the program achieve an impressive 40-9 record and back-to-back Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular-season and tournament titles. Miller also helped guide Hastings to a NAIA National Tournament runner-up finish in 2011 and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2012.
A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Miller had a successful playing career at Simpson College (Iowa). He was a four-year starter and a three-year team captain. He was named second-team all-conference twice and holds the school record for assists with 21.
