Mia Rivera and Hailey Rodriguez Set New School Records at Bobcat Invitational

| By:

SAN MARCOS, Texas – MIA RIVERA and HAILEY RODRIGUEZ set new program records to lead St. Edward's Women's Track & Field in a productive week at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State.

"I have to highlight both Mia and Hailey this weekend. They both keep pushing the limits of what our program is capable of," St. Edward's Head Track & Field Coach Steven Cary says. "Both are great examples of what is possible when you work smart and hard. They're both in great places to have a strong April."

A week after setting a new personal record in the 5K, pulling double duty in that event and the 1,500 at the Charles Austin Classic, Rivera returned to Texas State solely focusing on the 5K, shattering the team's record at 17:44.52, the fourth-best time in the LSC; placing eighth in the event.

Rodriguez broke the school's 400 record she previously set, clocking a 56.39, the fifth-best time in the LSC this season.

JULIANA MERLO led St. Edward's mid-distance runners, clocking a 2:18.20 in the 800 and then running a season-best 4:44.92 in the 1,500, the seventh-best in the LSC. BRYN PETERS and MEGAN FERRELL set new personal records in both events, TAYLOR LATZA set a new individual standard in the 800, and freshman ADRIANA RODRIGUEZ set a new personal record in the 1,500.

CAROLINE WILDRICK ran a new season-best in the 10K, clocking a 39:06.74 to finish third at the meet with the sixth-best time in the LSC this season. SYDNEY SMITH ran a personal best of 41:42.84.

St. Edward's also sent its 4x400 Relay Team of Yamila Cartright, HAILEY RODRIGUEZ, KARLY WEYAND, and SARAH WILLSON to the Clyde Little Field Texas Relays. The quartet ran a 3:56.03.

"We had lots of season and personal bests. You love to see that this time of year," Cary says. "We capped off a pretty good stretch with back-to-back meets at Texas State."

St. Edward's will continue its outdoor season at the Carl Kight Invitational, which Stephen F. Austin will host on April 11 and 12 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
