Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Lubbock Christian

AUSTIN, Texas – Ashlinn Hamilton delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the seventh and Lubbock Christian survived six St. Edward's hits and a classic pitching duel to escape the Hilltop with a 1-0 victory over St. Edward's.

LISETTE URQUIDEZ carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning with another stellar effort in the pitcher's circle for St. Edward's. The senior right-handed starter went all seven innings, walking two with one strikeout and the lone run surrendered.

St. Edward's got stellar production from the top of the lineup, getting 2-for-3 performances from leadoff hitter Kattie Dillon and ELLA HUTZLER out of the three spot. The Hilltoppers outhit Lubbock Christian 6-2, but left six runners stranded.

SLOANE HILL hit a leadoff single up the middle in third, then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and groundout, but LAUREN HOYT flied out to center to end the inning. Hutzler hit a leadoff single in the fourth and JUNIPER DANIEL pinch-ran for her, but was stranded at second base.

ARIANNA VIDALES and KATIE DILLON hit back-to-back, two-out infield singles in the fifth to put runners at the corners, but SOFIA APONTE flied out to center.

Kadin Vire broke up Urquidez's no-hitter with a one-out single to left field in the sixth, but Baylea Myers and Kendra Levesque flied out to left to end the inning. Urquidez hit Kristen Boyd to open the seventh, and the Lady Chaps moved her to third on a sac bunt. Urquidez struck out Filey Flores, but Hamilton pinch-hit for Piper Garcia and hit an RBI single to center field.

JERZIE PELHAM drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the inning, prompting Lubbock Christian to turn to Kendall Ward out of the bullpen. Pelham advanced to third on a wild pitch and groundout, but Vidales couldn't leg out another infield single, picking up the third out.

St. Edward's splits a fourth consecutive doubleheader, ending the day at 13-11 with a 7-7 conference record. The Hilltoppers will play No. 4-ranked Angelo State on Sunday.
