AUSTIN, Texas – From the opening serve, St. Edward's volleyball turned the final match of its first homestand into a showcase of rhythm and tempo, orchestrating a three-set composition that crescendoed with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-19 win over Cameron on Saturday.
Setter
ALTHEA MORRIS was the conductor, carving 40 assists out of quick decisions and sharp placement. She stacked in four aces for emphasis, including two back-to-back late in the first set that brought the crowd to its feet.
On the attack,
KAT NEILLE delivered the exclamation points—14 kills on 20 swings without an error for a blistering .700 hitting percentage.
LANDRY BAUGHMAN and
KELLI FORDING added 12 and 11 kills, spreading the floor and stretching Cameron's block until the seams split open.
When rallies threatened to tilt, libero
GISELLE OJEDA steadied the court with 20 digs and 21 clean receptions, keeping the Aggies off-balance and the Hilltoppers' offense in rhythm.
ADDY BADLEY provided the muscle in the middle, mixing in seven kills, two block assists, and a solo block.
The serving line was just as disruptive, producing eight aces that never let Cameron find its footing, tilting possessions into free balls that St. Edward's turned into runs – continuing the momentum set by 17 aces against UT Dallas on Thursday.
By the final set, the Hilltoppers were humming, hitting .447 to Cameron's .343. Neille went a perfect 5-for-5 in the frame, closing out the night with the same sharp edge she carried throughout.
St. Edward's (3-2) now turns the page to Lone Star Conference play, traveling to UT Permian Basin on Friday before a test against No. 13 Angelo State on Saturday.
