GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – St. Edward's women's soccer surrendered two goals to Kylie Wells in a 4-0 loss to Colorado Mesa in the Hilltoppers' season opener.
The Hilltoppers opened with a corner kick and shots from
RILEY SISSON and Jisell Denova Zavaleta in the first seven minutes, but Wells halted the momentum with an unassisted goal at the nine-minute mark. Wells followed with another goal at the 27-minute mark on an assist from Peyton Bundey.
Colorado Mesa outshot St. Edward's 10-4 in the first half, taking four corner kicks for the 2-0 lead into the break.
The Mavericks struck quickly in the second half on a goal from Sarah Dunn two minutes in. Dunn scored again on a feed from Isabel Schauber in the 61st minute.
Zavaleta Denova and
MARIE HANNEDOUCHE each put a shot on goal for St. Edward's.
ABIGAIL HALL added a shot on goal off the bench.
St. Edward's will remain in Colorado to face Fort Lewis College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT.
