AUSTIN, Texas — St. Edward's ran headlong into a relentless Eastern New Mexico side Saturday afternoon, falling 88–60 at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena as the Greyhounds' pressure, pace, and depth steadily widened the gap in Portales.
Eastern New Mexico set the tone early, forcing turnovers into quick strikes and second-chance looks to open a 26–11 first-quarter cushion despite six points from KIANA BENNETT on 3-for-4 shooting.
St. Edward's found its footing offensively in the second, matching ENMU basket for basket with a 23-point frame behind efficient shooting and improved ball movement, sparked by JASMINE FARMER's seven points on three shots off the bench. St. Edward's hit 3-for-4 from deep, but Nataya Lockett and Chloe Dallas combined for 17 off the bench for the 49-34 halftime lead.
The Hilltoppers showed resolve coming out of halftime. MIKAH CHAPMAN attacked downhill and finished through traffic, while Bennett kept scoring efficiently. But ENMU answered every push, stretching the margin with second-chance points and fast-break finishes to take a 71–48 lead into the fourth.
Eastern New Mexico's depth proved decisive over the final 10 minutes, as its bench continued to apply pressure and extend possessions. KENDALL BECK led the Hilltoppers with 15 points and four assists, Bennett scored 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting, and Chapman added 12 points and five rebounds.
St. Edward's shot 47.8 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three, but ENMU's edge in points off turnovers, second-chance opportunities, and fast breaks told the story as the Greyhounds improved to 11–4 overall and 7–0 in Lone Star Conference play
