LAWTON, Okla. — The No. 25-ranked St. Edward's Hilltoppers led from wire to wire Thursday night, grinding out a 74-62 road win over the Cameron Aggies inside Aggie Gymnasium.
St. Edward's set the tone early, opening the game on a 12-4 burst and never relinquishing the lead. The Hilltoppers held Cameron to 29.6 percent shooting in the first half and carried a 32-21 advantage into the break, using defensive pressure to force 11 turnovers and generate a 10-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
BLAKE NIELSEN anchored the Hilltoppers with a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds, consistently punishing the paint and cleaning the glass on both ends.
MASON COURTNEY added 12 points, including a pair of timely 3-pointers and a perfect 6-for-6 night at the free-throw line, while
CONOR MCMANUS chipped in 10 points and hit a key late triple to halt a Cameron push.
Cameron trimmed the margin to single digits multiple times in the second half, cutting the deficit to as close as one possession, but the Hilltoppers answered each run with poise. A 12–0 St. Edward's surge midway through the half stretched the lead to its largest at 16, fueled by stops on the defensive end and strong work on the offensive glass.
SAM MCKINNEY provided an efficient spark off the bench with 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting, while
RYDER BRADLEY orchestrated the offense with five assists and steady ball pressure defensively. St. Edward's finished with a 34-24 edge in points in the paint and a 13-6 advantage in second-chance points, key factors in closing out the road win.
The victory improves St. Edward's to 17-4 overall and 6-4 in Lone Star Conference play, as the Hilltoppers continue to stack quality road results in league action.
