AUSTIN, Texas — St. Edward's women's soccer freshman ARIANA WEISS will trade the blue and gold for the red and white during the October international window after earning her first call-up to the Peru Women's National Team.
Weiss was named to Peru's roster for a pair of international friendlies against the Philippines on Oct. 9 and Oct. 13 in Chincha, Peru. The selection marks Weiss' first experience with Peru's senior national team.
The Houston native has immediately carved out a significant role for the Hilltoppers in her first collegiate season. Weiss has appeared in all 10 matches with nine starts, logging 520 minutes as part of St. Edward's attacking group. She has put three of her six shots on goal and has started all six of the Hilltoppers' Lone Star Conference matches.
Weiss arrived on the Hilltop from Katy Tompkins High School and is one of several freshmen who have stepped into prominent roles during head coach Nuno Gourgel's first season at St. Edward's. The 5-foot-4 forward is listed as a midfielder on Peru's national-team roster.
Peru head coach Antonio Spinelli included Weiss among a group featuring players competing professionally and collegiately across Peru, the United States and Europe. Weiss is one of the newcomers to the group, joining George Mason's Adriana Bonanno among U.S.-based collegiate players receiving their first opportunity with La Bicolor.
The two matches against the Philippines are part of the October FIFA international window and will give Weiss her first opportunity to represent Peru at the senior international level.
