LAWTON, Okla. — St. Edward's put itself within reach late and flashed timely offense in the middle innings, but Cameron controlled the margins across both games to sweep Friday's Lone Star Conference doubleheader at McMahon Field.
In the opener, the Hilltoppers were limited to one hit through four innings before breaking through in the fifth. Working off patience at the plate—seven walks on the day—St. Edward's strung together its best sequence of the afternoon, turning a quiet offensive start into a four-run inning. A clutch two-out hit from
RYAN RANGEL plated multiple runs, and the Hilltoppers briefly grabbed momentum.
That window proved short-lived. Cameron answered with a decisive surge in the sixth, capitalizing on traffic and extra-base contact to flip the game in one swing of momentum. The Aggies piled up eight runs in the contest, with five coming with two outs, erasing St. Edward's lead and forcing the Hilltoppers to chase late.
SLOANE HILL delivered an RBI double, and
RYAN RANGEL drove in a pair in the opener, while
ARIANNA VIDALES reached base three times and scored, but the Hilltoppers couldn't reestablish rhythm after Cameron's response.
The nightcap followed a different script early, with
KYLEN PADGETT working around traffic and keeping Cameron's offense contained despite defensive miscues behind her. The Hilltoppers, however, left opportunities scattered across the first six innings, stranding 10 runners and unable to push a run across until the final frame.
Cameron took advantage of those missed chances, manufacturing runs in the opening and middle innings while benefiting from three St. Edward's errors. Padgett limited the damage to just two earned runs across six innings, but the Aggies built a 4-0 cushion that held deep into the game.
St. Edward's finally broke through in the seventh, rallying for three runs on three hits to cut the deficit to one and bring the tying run into play. Vidales ignited the inning, and RBI production from the middle of the order—including contributions from Rangel and Hill—put pressure on Cameron's defense. But the comeback stalled just short, with the Hilltoppers leaving the potential tying run on base to end the game.
Across the doubleheader, St. Edward's showed flashes of timely offense—scoring seven combined runs in two innings—but struggled to sustain pressure, leaving 16 runners on base between the two games. Cameron, by contrast, capitalized on key moments, using late-inning execution in the opener and early control in the finale to secure the sweep.
