AUSTIN, Texas — St. Edward's University has named Alexis Bandin as the next head coach of its softball program, Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Sarra announced Monday.
Bandin arrives on the Hilltop with experience at the NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA levels, bringing a coaching philosophy grounded in development, discipline, and connection. Throughout her career, she has earned a reputation for developing pitchers and catchers, identifying talent on the recruiting trail, and building cultures that emphasize accountability, academic success, and long-term growth.
"Alexis brings the leadership, vision, and energy we were looking for to lead our softball program," Sarra says. "She has been part of championship teams, understands what it takes to recruit and develop student-athletes, and believes in St. Edward's mission. Her commitment to building meaningful relationships while pursuing competitive excellence makes her an outstanding fit for our community."
Bandin joins the Hilltop after serving as assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and pitching coach at the University of Texas at El Paso, where she ran the Miners' pitching staff while overseeing recruiting operations, compliance, budgeting, scheduling, and team travel. She also collaborated on opponent scouting, game strategy, academic support, and community engagement.
Before UTEP, Bandin served three years as an assistant coach at Prairie View A&M, helping guide the Panthers to three consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division championships and the 2023 SWAC Championship. During her tenure, she developed multiple All-SWAC pitchers and catchers while contributing to recruiting, scouting, and day-to-day operations.
She also served as an assistant coach at NAIA's Union College (Ky.) in 2020, helping the team to a 14-7 record and 3-1 mark in conference play before COVID-19 canceled the season. Earlier stops at Shorter University, Mesa High School, and the RedHawks Softball Organization shaped a coaching approach centered on individualized instruction and relationship building.
"I'm honored to be named head softball coach at St. Edward's University and grateful to Athletic Director Jim Sarra for this opportunity," Bandin says. "St. Edward's is a special place with a strong community and a clear commitment to student-athletes. I'm excited to build strong relationships and help move Hilltopper softball forward with purpose and pride."
Bandin earned a Master of Business Administration in Sport Management from Shorter University after receiving her bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Charleston.
