Ryan Femath was promoted to St. Edward’s head baseball coach in the summer of 2023 after joining the Hilltop in the fall of 2022 as an assistant, helping St. Edward’s to a 40-17 record and NCAA South Central Regional bid in 2023.
Under Femath’s guidance, the Hilltoppers have posted two of the program’s best offensive seasons in program history in his first three seasons. St. Edward’s set program records for runs scored (463) and RBIs (417) in the 2023 season, then broke those records with 466 runs and 421 RBIs, and a program-record 353 walks in 2025.
Femath guided an injury-riddled roster to an LSC Tournament appearance in his first full season as a head coach, posting a 23-25 conference record and earning crucial splits in the final two series against Angelo State and Texas A&M International to earn an LSC Tournament berth in 2024.
St. Edward’s returned to health and reloaded its roster in Femath’s second season, finishing with a 37-23 record, including 31-17 in conference play. The Hilltoppers were nationally ranked in multiple polls for most of the season, climbing as high as No. 15 in the ABCA poll. The Hilltoppers advanced to the LSC Championship game and earned an NCAA South Central Regional berth, falling to top-ranked Angelo State in both tournaments.
In two seasons as head coach, Femath has produced nine All-LSC selections, two All-Region selections, and one All-American.
Before St. Edward’s, Femath was an assistant coach at St. Mary’s for 15 years following a successful two-year playing career for the Rattlers, serving as a hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. There, Femath helped Hall of Fame Coach Charlie Migl compile a 544-287 overall record with six conference championships, six regional appearances, and one NCAA National Championship appearance. His player development program helped yield 16 athletes who would go on to play professional baseball.
Femath received his Master’s in Educational Leadership in 2011 and a Bachelor’s in Exercise and Sport Science in 2008 from St. Mary’s, where he was the starting shortstop for two years after transferring from Howard College.
Femath played in 99 games for the Rattlers, hitting .326 with 14 doubles, 11 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 88 runs scored. He earned All-Heartland Conference First Team honors in his first season after batting .335 with nine home runs, 39 RBIs, and 61 runs scored. He earned two Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week awards, and his .477 on-base percentage ranks in the top 10 in program history. At Howard, Femath played for National Championship-winning coach Britt Smith, earning All-Conference honors, was selected for the TXNM Juco All-Star Game, and was the team’s “Hungry Dog” award-winner.
He’s originally from El Paso, Texas, where he played for Montwood High School and earned All-State honors.
