Andre Cook has helmed St. Edward’s men’s basketball since the 2009-2010 season, becoming the program’s all-time winningest coach during the 2022-23 season with his 230th victory at the Hilltop. He earned his 400th collegiate career coaching victory in 2025.Â

The Hilltoppers have posted 11 consecutive winning seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances under Cook, including a program-record 30 wins in 2018-19, snagging the Heartland Conference Regular Season Title, Heartland Conference Tournament Championship and advancing to the NCAA Regional Final while climbing as high as No. 2 in the national rankings.Â

That record-setting season was full of postseason accolades for Coach Cook and the Hilltoppers. Cook was named the 2019 Clarance Gaines Award winner by CollegeInsider.com to the Division II National Coach of the Year and NABC District Coach of the Year. During his tenure, Cook has coached 31 players to 44 all-conference selections, one LSC Freshman of the Year, and guided six players to all-region honors.

Cook came to St. Edward’s from Hudson Valley Community College, where he compiled an overall record of 119-40 (.748) in five seasons. In his last two seasons there, his Vikings combined for a 62-5 overall record and a 32-0 mark in conference play. Cook was named Region III Coach of the Year and BCANY Junior College Coach of the Year in 2007-08. In 2008–2009, the Vikings advanced to the NJCAA Division III national tournament, winning their way to the semifinals.

Cook, the Watervliet, N.Y. native, received his bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Skidmore College in 1994, and he completed a master’s degree in teaching social studies from Union College in 1996. While at Union, he served as an assistant men’s basketball coach from 1994 to 1996. Cook coached basketball at Hudson Falls High School from 1996-2004, teaching and serving as assistant principal.

As a high school player, Cook played four years of varsity basketball at Watervliet High School for New York State and Hudson Valley Hall of Fame coach George Mardigan. Watervliet inducted Cook into its Hall of Fame in 2009.Â

Cook played four years at Skidmore College and scored in the top 10 at Watervliet and Skidmore, amassing over 1,000 points at both places. In 2012, Cook was inducted into the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame in Albany, New York.

Cook resides in Austin with his wife, Stacey, and children, Emily and Colin.
