Junior (2016): Appeared in 40 games while making 35 starts behind the plate…tallied a .982 fielding average…drove in five runs in 85 at-bats.
 
Sophomore (2015) (Temple JC): Appeared in all 63 games for the Leopards, registering a .321 batting average with six home runs and 46 RBI…also scored 33 runs and stole 15 bases...helped lead team to NJCAA National Tournament…hit winning home run to beat #1-ranked team Salt Lake City CC in the national tournament…named second-team all-conference…selected as academic all-conference.
 
Freshman (2014) (Temple JC): Appeared in 34 games for the Leopards while compiling a .319 batting average with three home runs and 18 RBI for a team that finished as runners-up at the regional tournament… selected as academic all-conference.
 
Prep: A four-year letterwinner at Edinburg North High School.
 
Personal: Melina April Sanchez was born on April 7, 1995…daughter of Michael and Velva Sanchez…has two siblings: Kevin Sanchez (30) and Dr. Vanessa Medina (27)… majoring in kinesiology…enjoys hanging out with friends, going to the lake and spending time at the beach…biggest athletic thrill was hitting a home run against No. 1 team in the nation at Nationals.
