Laura Barker joined the St. Edward's University Sports Medicine staff in the summer of 2026 and serves as the athletic trainer for the Hilltoppers' volleyball and women's basketball programs.
Barker arrives on the Hilltop after spending three years with CHRISTUS Health as the athletic trainer for Tyler Legacy High School in Tyler, Texas. She provided comprehensive medical coverage for high school and middle school student-athletes, overseeing injury evaluation, rehabilitation, emergency care, return-to-play protocols, event coverage, and concussion management. During her tenure, she coordinated athletic training services across multiple campuses, mentored student athletic trainers, managed inventory and drug testing, and led emergency action plan training for coaches and staff.
Prior to her professional career, Barker gained collegiate athletic training experience with baseball programs at the University of Texas at Dallas, Utah Valley University, and Brigham Young University. She also worked with BYU Track & Field, BYU Baseball Camps, and Provo High School Athletics, developing expertise in post-operative rehabilitation, manual therapy, concussion management, and emergency medical response.
Barker earned both her Master of Athletic Training and Bachelor of Exercise Science from Brigham Young University in 2023. She is a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer, a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the state of Texas, and is certified in dry needling. Her clinical interests include post-operative rehabilitation, manual therapy techniques, concussion management, and helping student-athletes safely return to competition.
