Number 21 St. Edward's snaps skid with 2-0 victory over Northeastern State

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas - The #21 St. Edward's men's soccer team broke a two-match losing streak with a 2-0 defeat of Northeastern State Sunday afternoon at the SEU Soccer Field.

St. Edward's (8-2) opened the scoring in the 44 thminute when junior John Calandro ripped a shot from just outside the box off of the far post and into the net to put the Hilltoppers up, 1-0. This was Calandro's first goal of the season. Junior AJ Prebensen picked up the assist on the play.

In the second half, sophomore Jorge Vega notched his third goal of the season after receiving a through pass from junior Kevin Klaus and beating the goalkeeper one-on-one in the 78 thminute.

"I am proud of our team for finishing off the game," head coach Brian Young said. "We had a sluggish first half, but the guys came out strong in the second half and got the result we wanted."

St. Edward's outshot the Riverhawks, 17-9, and had five cornerkicks compared to just one for Northeastern State. Riverhawks goalkeeper Brendon Lindsey had six saves, while Hilltopper goalkeeper Matt Moore had two saves.

St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they travel to take on Heartland Conference rival Incarnate Word. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
