Box Score AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's men's soccer team, struggle in wet conditions and fall to #25 West Texas A&M, 3-0, Thursday evening at the SEU Soccer Field.
West Texas A&M (1-0) struck first in the 16 thminute of the match when Victor Olivares broke free on a free kick from Jacob Jensen and headed the ball past Hilltopper goalkeeper Matt Moore.
In the 22 ndminute the game was halted due to lightning in the area. Play resumed nearly two hours later. The Buffalo picked up where they left off in the 60 thminute when a cross from Jensen went across the goal mouth and Olivares was there for the one-timer for his second goal of the game.
West Texas A&M capped off the scoring in the 75 thminute when Dominic Furness scored on an assist from Freddy Dominguez. Just before the final whistle, St. Edward's (0-1) looked to score on a corner kick from senior John Calandro to senior Beau Grantier just missing a header. The Hilltoppers were outshot, 10-3, by the Buffalo. In a very physical match both teams accrued 14 fouls each. The two teams had five yellow cards between them.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Sunday when they host #5 Midwestern State. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. at the SEU Soccer Field.
