Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas – St. Edward's sophomore goalkeeper John Kachack came up big with seven saves as the Hilltoppers tied #13 Midwestern State, 0-0, Sunday afternoon at Mustangs Field.
St. Edward's (3-7-4) started off strong in the beginning of the first half against Midwestern State (10-3-1) taking two shots within the first 10 minutes of play. The first was in the fourth minute when Peter Gordon (Junior, Kansas City, Mo.) took a shot that was then blocked by the Mustang defense. The second shot was taken by James Martin (Junior, Haywards Heath, England) however the Mustang goalkeeper was there for the save.
By the end of the first half goalkeeper Kaschak (Sophomore, Allen, Texas) had defended the goal perfectly, making three saves, keeping the score 0-0.
In the second half, the Hilltoppers continued to pressure the Mustangs and kept up the momentum. The Hilltoppers defense blocked three of Midwestern's shot attempts and Kaschak made two more saves to keep the score 0-0. The match would then go into overtime.
In overtime neither team would score leaving the match in a draw. Midwestern State outshot the Hilltoppers, 24-4. Kaschak would play an important role for his team in this match making a total of seven saves.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Friday when they take on long time rival St. Mary's. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live audio will be available on the St. Edward's Athletic Website.
