Final Results
DALLAS, Texas – The #2 St. Edward's women's golf team completed a perfect fall season today in Dallas by finishing first in the Dallas Baptist Invitational at the Golf Club of Dallas. The Hilltoppers shot a 303 today after yesterday's 293 to finish with a score of 596.
Midwestern St. claimed second place with a 602 while the host team Dallas Baptist came in third with a 607. Tied for fourth place with a 613 were Chico State and Central Oklahoma.
HALEY HAUGHT finished with a team best score of 146 after today's 77 and yesterday's 69. Haught tied for the fourth best score of the invitational.
WALLIS SPEARS' round two score of 70 was the best among all players. Spears improved by seven strokes from round one to total 147. Spears tied for the sixth best score of the invitational.
RYANNE HADDOW shot a 77 today after yesterday's 74 to total 151. Haddow tied for 12th overall.
MELISA GONZALEZ each shot a 78 today to add to yesterday's 75 for a total of 153. Gonzalez tied for 14th overall. Freshman
JESSICA TAMEN posted an 82 today to add to yesterday's 75 to combine for 157. Playing as an individual,
ALYSSA SMITH shot a 75 in round one, followed by a 79 in the final round to finish tied for 18
th place.
The best individual performances of the invitational were had by Mercedes Rios (140) of Dallas Baptist, Alexandra Bush (145) of Chico St., Laura DeLeonardis (146) of Northwood, and St. Edward's Haught (146).
"Wow, what an unbelievable fight today was. I'm so proud of the fight these kids showed,” said Coach McNeil. “They battled to the finish for every single shot. I couldn't be more proud of this group. We had a tremendous fall season, I can't wait for the spring to start!"
The invitational marks the end of a very successful fall season for St. Edward's. The Hilltoppers finished in first place in each of the four tournaments of the season. Along the way, the #2 Hilltoppers achieved the highest ranking in school history. St. Edward's will begin their spring season in February.
