St. Edward’s ties Texas A&M-International 1-1

Box Score LAREDO, Texas – The St. Edward's men's soccer team tied Texas A&M-International, 1-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Hilltoppers are now 5-3-2 on the season.

In the first half, KYLE RUCK attempted St. Edward's first two shots of the match. Ruck's shot in the sixth minute was stopped by the Dustdevil defense and his shot in the 17th minute was saved by Dustdevil goalkeeper Jesus Cisneros. In the 27th minute, DANIEL RILEY's shot was also saved by Cisneros.    

Texas A&M-International would score the game's first goal in the 44th minute of action. Elkin Marin-Tobar scored from eight yards out off an assist by Juan Narvaez. JAMES MARTIN's attempt in the final minute of the half went wide.

In the second half, St. Edward's would outshoot the Dustdevils 7-1. A header attempt by KYLE PUJATS in the 57th minute sailed high. The Hilltoppers would take two shots in the 61st minute, but each was off target. In the 83rd minute, Coleton Stymeist's shot was saved by Cisneros. In the 88th minute, the Hilltoppers would finally find the back of the net. ANDREW FOX scored on a free kick from 20 yards out to save the Hilltoppers. In the final minute of regulation, ANDERSON MCDANIEL's shot sailed high.

In the first overtime, not a single shot was taken by either team. In the second overtime period, each team would attempt one shot. In the 105th minute, the Dustdevils' Juan Ramirez' shot went high. In the 108th minute, McDaniel's shot went wide. After 110 minutes, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

St. Edward's outshot the Texas A&M-International Dustdevils 13-5 in the match. A total of five yellow cards were handed out during the match with two called against the Hilltoppers.

Coach Young had this to say after the game, “We had some great chances in the first half to go ahead and were unfortunate not to be up in the first half. Andy Fox finished a great set piece. The draw keeps us in first place in the Heartland Conference.”

St. Edward's will be back in action on Thursday when they host Newman. Action will begin at 3:30.
