Rauch tallies 19 kills in loss to Dustdevils

Box Score   AUSTIN, TexasHANNAH RAUCH collected 19 kills, but that was not enough as St. Edward's fell to Texas A&M-International in four, 25-15, 17-25, 25-23, and 25-20.

The Hilltoppers struggled early on in the first set, as three Hilltopper errors and a kill put the Dustdevils on top, 4-0. A kill from Rauch stopped the rally, but St. Edward's (16-9, 9-3 HC) was unable to gain momentum as TAMU-International (15-10, 7-6 HC) continued to add to its lead. The Hilltoppers were kept to short rallies as the Dustdevils took the set with ease, 25-15.

St. Edward's found themselves down early on in set two as miscues gave TAMU-International the advantage. With the Dustdevils up, 5-3, the Hilltoppers regained composure as another kill from Rauch sparked a six-point run to put them ahead, 9-5. St. Edward's kept TAMU-International at bay as the coasted to a 25-17 set two win.

In the third set, both teams battled early on keeping the score close. With the set tied 7-7, a service ace by ELISSA STANTON hoped to start a run, but the 6-4 rally was in favor of the Dustdevils as the moved ahead to 13-11. The Hilltoppers would not go away quietly as they kept within reach of TAMU-International. At 21-19, back-to-back kills from Rauch and Stanton put St. Edward's up, 22-21, with  MICHELLE HUNDT following with a service ace to give the Hilltoppers the 23-21 lead. TAMU-International responded quickly with four unanswered points, as the Dustdevils took the set, 25-23.

In a must win set, St. Edward's felt the pressure early on in set four falling to 5-1. The Hilltopper defense was able to hold off TAMU-International's offense as both teams traded points for most of the set. Down the stretch a timely block by MEREDITH BARD brought St. Edward's within three, 23-20, but the Dustdevils collected the final two points to take the set, 25-20.

The Hilltoppers were led by Rauch as well as MARY KOEHLER who picked up another double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, and Bard with 11 kills. MARY MCNAMARA tallied 24 assists as Hundt finished with 27 digs.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action Saturday for Battle of the Saints against St. Mary's, as well as senior day on the Hilltop. The match is set for noon at the Recreation and Convocation Center. Live coverage will be available on the Hilltopper website.
