Hilltoppers drop Regional Opener to #8 Angelo State, 2-0

Meagen Bailey
SAN ANGELO, Texas – The St. Edward's softball team could not come up with the big hit as they left six runners in scoring position in its 2-0 loss to #8 Angelo State Friday evening in the opening round of the NCAA South Central Regional at the ASU Softball Complex.

Angelo State (45-9) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. RamBelle catcher Kacie Easley connected on a two-run home run to left field as she hit a changeup from Sarah Debrow to give Angelo State a 2-0 lead.

St. Edward's (29-20) had its chances in the early going, as they put four runners in scoring position through the first three frames. However, the Hilltoppers could not come up with the big hit as they left all of the runners stranded.

RamBelle starting pitcher Claire Molina settled down after the first three innings retiring eight-straight hitters at one point.

The Hilltoppers had a chance in the seventh as Lauren Brode led off with a single. Brode was 3-for-3 at the plate during the evening. Miranda Yeager reached with a two-out walk to put runners at first and second. Meagen Bailey lined one to right field, but the outfielder was there to make the catch for the final out.

Debrow only made the one mistake as she scattered seven hits. She walked one and struck out four hitters as her record dropped to 12-7.

St. Edward's will face Missouri Western State in an elimination game. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. at the ASU Softball Complex in San Angelo, Texas. Live Stats will be available on the RamBelles Website.
