Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. – A pair of freshmen led the way as JESSICA TRAVES and TAYLOR WISEMAN both notched their first collegiate goal to lead St. Edward's past New Mexico Highlands, 2-0, Thursday evening at Michael Messina Field.

St. Edward's (1-0) put the pressure on early, tallying three shots in the first 10 minutes but could not find the mark.

New Mexico Highlands (0-1) gave goalkeeper DANIELLE LICARIONE her first test in the 17th minute, but the junior was there for the save. She would finish the match with six saves to notch her first career shutout.

The Hilltoppers would outshoot the Cowgirls, 7-3 in the first half but it wasn't until the 43rd minute when Traves found the back of the net on a double assist from AMBER BLACK and AMANDA TABONE.

In the second half, St. Edward's wasted no time when Wiseman would score an unassisted goal in the 47th minute to put the Hilltoppers ahead, 2-0. KELLY DAVIS almost made it 3-0 in the 70thminute but her header hit the crossbar.

The St. Edward's defense would take it from there as they held the opposition to 11 shots for the entire match.

This was the seventh-straight season-opening win for the Hilltoppers. Head Coach Nick Cowell has never lost a season-opener since taking over the reigns in 2006.
