Box Score

DALLAS, Texas – St. Edward's University's first-half firepower was enough to pick up a 3-0 win Thursday night against Dallas Baptist.  The match was the conference opener for the Hilltoppers.

St. Edward's (1-2) started the game strong registering the first goal of the match just four minutes into the game.  DANIEL RILEY registered his first goal of the season to give the Hilltoppers the early 1-0 lead.  The goal was assisted by ANDREW FOX.

Fox continued his offensive productivity by helping St. Edward's increase its lead around the halfway point of the first period.  He scored his first goal of the season, as he received a free kick from teammate DANIEL PENA.

JAMES MARTIN contributed to the scoring adding a goal just three minutes later to give the Hilltoppers a commanding 3-0 lead.  The goal came on a one-timer on a pass through the box.  Riley tallied the assist.

St. Edward's controlled the tempo throughout the first half of play.  They registered five total shots and five cornerkicks.  The Hilltoppers remained collected during a scrappy period of play.  St. Edward's had 11 fouls against them, while Dallas Baptist (1-2) had 10.  Both teams had a yellow card under their belt during the period.

The Hilltoppers continued their aggressive play during the second period.  Coleton Stymeist connected on header, but Patriot goalkeeper Chuck Schober was there for the save.  The physical play continued for both squads, and MATT MCLAUGHLIN was hit with yellow card.  This was the second yellow card for St. Edward's.

The Hilltoppers had a chance to extend their lead as Martin took a penalty kick late in the period, but Schober was there on the save.  St. Edward's finished with eight total shots and 23 fouls, while Dallas Baptist registered two shots and 21 fouls.  Hilltopper goalie JOHN KASCHAK recorded his first shutout of the young season.

Head Coach Brian Young was pleased with his team's effort; he commented after the game, “The team was excited to finally play after the extended time off following the Colorado trip.  I felt the guys moved the ball well and played great soccer.”  He also mentioned that he felt the attack is picking up and the movement and ball possession was a positive carry over from the last two weeks of training.

Young and the Hilltopper squad now turn their attention to #5 Midwestern State.  This will be the first home game of the season for St. Edward's and kickoff is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Lewis-Chen Family Field.  Live streaming and stats will be available through the Hilltopper website.
