#18 Hilltoppers beat Metro State, 2-1

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – On a scorching Friday afternoon, #18 St. Edward's defeated the Roadrunners of Metropolitan State, 2-1 at Lewis-Chen Family Field. The Hilltoppers advanced to 3-0 on the season.
 
Two Hilltoppers, freshman LAUREN HELLER and junior KELLY DAVIS, played large roles in the win. In the 14th minute, Heller had the Hilltoppers' first shot on goal saved by Roadrunner Goalkeeper Jordan Simkins. Ten minutes later, Heller would not be denied. Heller scored her first collegiate goal on a volley off a cornerkick from Davis.
 
St. Edward's would take two more shots in the first half. JESSICA TRAVES' shot in the 34th minute was saved by Simkins. OLIVIA COLLADO's shot went wide right in the 37th minute. Metro State would take just three shots in the first half as the game went to intermission at 1-0.
 
In the second half, Metro State struck first in the 48th minute when Karisa Price scored on a volley from five yards out. Price was assisted by Tess Hagenlock. Metro State would take nine shots in the second half. St. Edward's goalkeeper Daniel Licarione would make four saves in the win.
 
With the game tied 1-1 in the 72nd minute, Davis would score on a two versus one breakaway off a Roadrunner turnover. This time Keller would assist Davis. For Davis, this was her first goal of the year.
 
The Roadrunners would come close to matching the score on several occasions. Hilltoppers Goalkeeper Licarione would make saves in the 75th minute and in the 87th minute on a header attempt by Price. St. Edward's would control the match the rest of the way to hold on to the win.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action on Sunday at home at 1:30 against Regis in the Kim Yeatts Memorial Classic.
