Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's soccer team defeated McMurry 4-0 on Monday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field to earn the team's eighth-straight victory and ninth-straight shutout. St. Edward's controlled the match throughout, outshooting the War Hawks, 33-1. The Hilltoppers improve to 10-0-2 on the season and 5-0 in the Heartland Conference.
St. Edward's pressured the War Hawks, led by goalkeeper Anissa Arenas, early in the match. Arenas made four saves in the first half with the first coming on
MEGAN ANDERSON's header attempt in the fourth minute of action.
The Hilltoppers would find the net in the seventh minute when
CAILYN TRAPANI beat the keeper to the left side of the goal from 10 yards out. Trapani is now tied for first on the team with five goals.
St. Edward's looked to add to the 1-0 lead, but Arenas was there for multiple saves including a header attempt by
MIKAYLA ENGEL in the 13
th minute.
RIANA SOOBADOO would push the lead to 2-0 in the 37
th minute when she beat the keeper from the right side of the box. This was Soobadoo's first goal of the season. The Hilltoppers went into halftime leading 2-0.
St. Edward's kept the pressure on in the second half, outshooting the War Hawks, 20-0, in the half. However, Arenas continued to pile up saves, making a total of nine for the match.
LAUREN HELLER had her shot saved by Arenas in the 51
st minute.
ANNA OWEN's follow up attempt was also saved by Arenas.
The Hilltoppers made it 3-0 in the 72
nd minute when
ARI GARCIA beet the keeper to the corner of the goal from 20 yards out. This was Garcia's first goal of the season. Ten minutes later,
RACHEL MURRAY scored her third goal of the season on a header attempt to give St. Edward's a 4-0 advantage. Murray was assisted by
KATIE DONAHUE.
