AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's soccer celebrated Senior Day with a 9-1 victory over Heartland Conference opponent UT-Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field. The Hilltoppers outshot the Falcons, 32-1 on the way to a season-high nine goals. Senior RACHEL MURRAY scored three goals in the match, doubling her season total to six goals on the year. St. Edward's improves to 10-0-2 on the season and 6-0 in the Heartland Conference.
The Hilltoppers waited just 24 seconds into the match to strike first. LAUREN HELLER tapped in a cross from Murray to put St. Edward's up 1-0. Heller, Murray, and CAILYN TRAPANI are all tied for the team-lead in goals with six.
Murray scored her first of three goals in the 10th minute off an assist from Heller to give the Hilltoppers a 2-0 advantage. Murray added her second goal just a minute later on a header to the far post. Murray was assisted by KATIE DONAHUE and Heller. Heller and Murray are tied for the team-lead in assists with seven.
MEGAN ANDERSON would push the lead to 4-0 in the 20th minute when she scored on a free kick from 30 yards out. ZOE ANSELL made it 5-0 in the 36th minute when she headed the ball in from 15 yards out off a cornerkick from VALENCIA MOBLEY.
St. Edward's would add four more goals in the second half. Murray completed the hat trick in 51st minute when scored on a header from 18 yards out off an attempted clearance.
Trapani made it 6-0 in the 60th minute when she scored an unassisted goal from 10 yards out. The Hilltoppers would receive a fortunate bounce in the 62nd minute when a Falcon player accidentally scored in their own goal.
St. Edward's had its shutout streak of nine matches snapped in the 62nd minute when Brooke Saxton kicked the ball just past the goal line before senior keeper DOMINIQUE CURRAN could corral it.
VALENCIA MOBLEY added the final goal in the 75th minute when she scored from 25 yards out to the far post. Mobley was assisted by MIKAYLA ENGEL.
The Hilltoppers will resume action Monday at they host Heartland Conference opponent Lubbock Christian. This is St. Edward's final regular season home match. Kickoff at Lewis-Chen Family Field is set for 2:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available through the Hilltopper Athletic website.
