Hilltoppers take 1-0 win over Dallas Baptist in defensive struggle

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Dallas Baptist in Monday afternoon's match at Lewis-Chen Family Field that featured just 11 combined shot attempts. JULIA HARRISON scored the lone goal of the match in the 15th minute of action. The Hilltoppers are now 7-0-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Heartland Conference.
 
In the first half, St. Edward's had the advantage over Dallas Baptist in shots, 4-1, and cornerkicks, 5-1. CAILYN TRAPANI's shot in the 13th minute was blocked and wound up out of bounds, resulting in a cornerkick. The Hilltoppers were awarded two more cornerkicks in less than a one-minute span. In the 15th minute, RACHEL MURRAY sent an arching cornerkick that Harrison headed past the keeper to the far post. This was Harrison's second goal of the season with her other goal occurring in Saturday's win against Oklahoma Christian.
 
The Hilltoppers were awarded another cornerkick in the 24th minute of action. Murray put the ball in the direction of JESSICA TRAVES whose header attempt went high. Dallas Baptist's only shot of the half was a miss high by Lindsey Eccles in the 29th minute of action. Several fouls were called prior to halftime including a yellow card on Dallas Baptist's Jolee Patterson in the 37th minute.
 
In the second half, Dallas Baptist outshot St. Edward's 5-1. The pressure was on Hilltopper freshman goalkeeper LORRIE SANTOY in the 65th and 66th minutes of action. Eccles fired a shot in the 65th minute that was blocked. Eccles' rebound attempt was also blocked and the ball sailed out of bounds for a Dallas Baptist cornerkick. Megan McDermand, on the receiving end of the cornerkick, headed the ball toward the goal, but Santoy was there for the save.
 
MEGAN ANDERSON had a shot go wide left in the 69th minute of action. This was St. Edward's lone attempt of the half. The Hilltoppers were more focused on keeping the 1-0 lead. In the 75th minute, Santoy made the save on an attempt by Danielle Presley. Dallas Baptist's last chance for a goal came in the 86th minute. Jake Cox's attempt sailed high.
 
St. Edward's has now won five games in a row since tying West Texas A&M on September 20th. The Hilltoppers have shut out their opponent in each of the five wins and hold six shutouts on the year.
 
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Claremore, Okla. to take on Rogers State. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available through the Rogers State Athletic website.
