Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – For the second time in as many games, the St. Edward's women's basketball team placed five players in double figures in a 77-31 rout of Concordia on Wednesday night at the Recreation and Convocation Center. The Hilltoppers improve to 3-0 overall on the season.
Head coach JJ Riehl commented, " We showed our depth again tonight with five different players in double figures. We shared the ball well and once again this type of effort is tough on defenses to defend."
St. Edward's jumped out to an early 15-4 lead with less than 15 minutes remaining in the first half.
ERIKA ROUSCULP scored six of her 12 points during the early run. Rousculp recorded her third double-double in as many games. She added 11 rebounds to her 12 points.
"Erika was a huge presence inside the paint once again," said head coach JJ Riehl. "Three games, three double doubles…Not too shabby. Once again she controlled and protected the inside."
The Hilltoppers grew their lead to 19 points, leading 26-7 with 6:04 remaining. Guards
STEPHANIE DEKKERS and
MILEKA LOYDRAKE scored two easy buckets for St Edward's. Dekkers and Loydrake both tallied 10 points. Dekkers added five rebounds and five assists.
Freshman guard
PERI EWIN drained two shots from beyond the arc. Ewin helped St. Edward's go into the break leading 36-15. The Hilltoppers shot 44.8% from the field and 20% from downtown during the first 20-minutes. Ewin scored in double figures, adding 11 points in only her third game with St. Edward's.
Dekkers drained one of her three point baskets with 16:49 remaining. The basket increased the lead to 28 points.
JAIMIE KADLECEK and Casey Rile scored the next eight points, pushing the lead to 36 points.
St. Edward's kept their foot on the gas pedal late in the game.
MADDIE WHEELER scored two of her team leading 14 points with four minutes remaining for a 72-31 lead.
HALEY MEEKINS would deliver the final blow with two free throws in the final seconds for the 46-point victory over Concordia.
Riehl closed her statement, "I'm proud of the girls. A 3-0 start is huge for our program. We have to continue to focus on us and get better. We need a couple of good days of practice in preparing for Saturday's contest."
