Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas – The St. Edward's volleyball team saw its seven-match conference winning streak come to an end Thursday evening as they fell to Lubbock Christian, 3-1 at the Rip Griffin Center. The Lady Chaps defeated the Hilltoppers, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 on Thursday evening, and were the last Heartland Conference team to defeat them before the win streak started.
In the first set, Lubbock Christian (16-12, 12-6 HC) held a tight 22-21 lead. The Lady Chaps got a service ace, and two attack errors by the Hilltoppers gave Lubbock Christian the set.
Trailing 18-17 in set two, St. Edward's (13-15, 11-6 HC) would go on an 8-3 run to take the set.
ASHLEY RAPPAPORT had two aces and
MARY KOEHLER and
ANNA AYCOCK produced kills to lead the Hilltoppers.
Lubbock Christian raced out to a 7-3 lead in set three on the strength of three kills by Amy Edwards. St. Edward's fought back, scoring six-straight points to take a 9-7 advantage. However, it wasn't in the cards for the Hilltoppers in this set as the Lady Chaps embarked on an 11-3 run to take control of the set, 18-12. They would trade points and Lubbock Christian would take a two sets to one lead.
After a kill by Koehler gave St. Edward's a 23-22 lead in set four, the Lady Chaps called a timeout. The home team came out of the break and scored three-straight points to take the match.
Koehler led the Hilltoppers with 12 kills and also tallied 15 digs.
KELLY JIMENEZ led St. Edward's with 22 digs, while
JACLYN BILLIE produced 22 assists.
St. Edward's will close out the regular season on Saturday when they travel to take on UT-Permian Basin. First-serve is set for noon at the Falcon Dome in Odessa, Texas. Live video and stats will be available on the Falcon Athletic Website.
