Hilltoppers’ season comes to an end with five-set loss to Dallas Baptist

Box Score FORT SMITH, Ark. – The St. Edward's volleyball season came to an end with a five-set loss to Dallas Baptist, 25-20, 25-23, 25-18, 17-25, and 15-6 in the Heartland Conference Tournament semifinals, Friday evening. 
 
St. Edward's (14-16) got off to a 3-1 advantage in the first set with kills by MARY KOEHLER, AMY JONES, and TABITHA ELDER. The Hilltoppers took a 17-14 lead later in the set after a kill by Koehler, but Dallas Baptist responded with a 6-0 run to take 20-17 lead. Dallas Baptist won the set 25-20 on a kill by Tiara Iwegbu.
 
The Hilltoppers, leading 13-12 in the second set, went on a 3-0 run to increase the lead to 16-13. Elisa Stanton had a kill off an assist from KELLY JIMENEZ during the run. St. Edward's led 24-20 later in the set but Dallas Baptist rallied for three-straight points to make the score 24-23. A kill by Jones gave the Hilltoppers the set, 25-23.
 
The third set saw the Hilltoppers take an early 6-1 lead. HANNAH RAUCH had the kill that started the run. St. Edward's maintained a lead of at least three points throughout the third set. The closest Dallas Baptist came was at 14-11. A kill by ANNA AYCOCK made it 20-16 later in the set and the Hilltoppers won the set, 25-18.
 
Dallas Baptist started the fourth set with a 7-0 run. St. Edward's would win four of the next seven points to cut the deficit to 10-4. Dallas Baptist responded with a 7-3 run to increase its lead to 17-9. The Lady Patriots won the set 25-17.
 
The Hilltoppers began the fifth set with two straight kills by Stanton. A kill by Jones put St. Edward's up 4-3. The Lady Patriots went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-4 lead. A kill by Koehler cut the lead to 7-6. This was the last point the Hilltoppers won as Dallas Baptist went on an 8-0 run to take the set 15-6.
 
For the Hilltoppers, Koehler picked up a double-double with 10 kills and 22 digs. Jones led the team with 18 kills while LOREN KELLY tallied a team-high 29 assists. Jimenez led the way with 28 digs while JESSICA MORALES added 14 digs of her own.

AMY JONES was also named to the Heartland Conference All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
 
St. Edward's finishes its season appearing in the Heartland Conference Tournament for the seventh-straight year. They are losing just one senior and will be returning a lot of talent for next season.
