Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The St. Edward's men's basketball team dropped a 79-69 road-decision to Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday evening at Hampton Inn Court.
St. Edward's (3-4) opened the game by scoring the first four points.
HARLEY NUSSMAN connected on two free throws and
JOHN GRAMLICH hit a jumper for a 4-0 Hilltopper lead with 19:10 remaining. It would be the last time the Hilltoppers would hold the lead.
TAMU-Kingsville (3-4) responded by scoring the next 10 points as Rashad Basey scored five of the points for a 10-4 lead with 15:14 remaining.
TYLER FOSTER nailed a jumper and
ETHAN GILBERT hit a trey as St. Edward's cut the lead to one, 10-9, with 14:36 left in the first half.
The home team had an answer again as they went on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes to open up a double-digit lead, 21-9, with 12:17 remaining. The Javelinas would hold a substantial lead for the rest of the first half, taking a 38-32 advantage into the break.
In the second half, TAMU-Kingsville held its slight lead throughout the first eight minutes of action. After a layup by
RAMIR BURTON at the 11:51 mark, Gramlich stepped to the line for the Hilltoppers to try and tie the score. Gramlich made 1-of-2 as St. Edward's still trailed, 51-50, with 11:16 left in the contest. The Hilltoppers would get no closer the rest of the way.
JOHN RUTHERFORD led the Hilltoppers with 18 points, as he was 5-for-11 from the floor, while hitting four shots from downtown.
JAMES STUKES chipped in with 11 points, while Nussman led all players with 12 rebounds.
St. Edward's shot a season-low 35.7 percent (25-70) from the field and 23.8 percent (5-21) from behind the arc.
St. Edward's will be back in action Dec. 4th when they travel to take on NCAA Division I Incarnate Word. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the McDermott Center. Live video and stats will be available on the Cardinal Athletic Website.
